MESSENGER.
My honourable lords, health to you（複数だからTHEEじゃない） all!
恐れ多き方々、ごきげんよろしゅう
Sad tidings（便り） bring I to you out of France,
フランスから悲しいお便りをお持ちしました
Of loss, of slaughter, and discomfiture（壊走）:
敗北の虐殺の、完全なる壊走の・・
Guienne, Champagne, Rheims, Orleans,
Paris, Guysors, Poictiers, are all quite lost.
・・・・はすべて甚大に失われました。
BEDFORD.
What say'st thou, man, before dead Henry's corse?
なんてことをTHOUは言うのだ、ヘンリーの死体の前だぞ
Speak softly; or the loss of those great towns
Will make him burst his lead and rise from death.
もっと柔らかく話せ、それかそれらの素晴らしい街が失なわれたということが、HEを死から目覚めさせるとでもいうのか
GLOUCESTER.
Is Paris lost? Is Rouen yielded up
パリが負けて、ルーエンが降伏した？
If Henry were recall'd to life again,
These news would cause him once more yield the ghost.
もしヘンリーが目覚めても、このニュースはHeをまた、亡霊たちに降参することになるだろう
EXETER.
How were they lost? What treachery（背信、裏切り） was us'd?
どのようにして負けたのだ。どのような裏切りが行われたのだ
MESSENGER.
No treachery; but want of men and money.

Amongst the soldiers this is muttered,

One would have lingering wars with little cost;

A third thinks, without expense at all,
By guileful（策略により） fair words peace may be obtain'd.
またあるものは出費など全然なしで狡猾で公平なコトバ、平和なるものが手に入るという

Let not sloth（怠惰な） dim（薄暗い） your honours new-begot（ （まずいことを）起こす） :

These tidings (知らせ） would call forth their flowing tides.

Me they concern; Regent I am of France.

このようなみじめでしめっぽい服はうんざりだ

MESSENGER.
Lords, view these letters full of bad mischance.
France is revolted（反乱を起こす） from the English quite,
Except some petty towns of no import:
LORDたちよ、この悪いことばかりの手紙を観て下さい、フランスはイングランドの小さな重要でない街以外のほとんどから反乱を起こしています。
The Dauphin Charles is crowned king in Rheims;
チャールズDAUPHINはレイムで王冠を受け
The Bastard of Orleans with him is join'd;
オルレアンの私生子も合流
Reignier, Duke of Anjou, doth take his part;
レニエ、DUKE アンジュー、も加わりました
The Duke of Alencon flieth to his side.

The Dauphin crowned king! all fly to him!
O, whither（ウィザー どこへ） shall we fly from this reproach（恥辱）?
DAUPHINがKINGに？ みな飛ぶように集まった！
うわぁ！！ならweはいったいこの恥辱からどこへ飛び去ればいいのだ
GLOUCESTER.
We will not fly, but to our enemies' throats.
Bedford, if thou be slack（グズグズする）, I'll fight it out.
逃げ去りはしない、ただ敵の喉元に食らいつくだけだ

BEDFORD.
Gloucester, why doubt'st thou of my forwardness（前進する意思）?
グロセスター、どうしてTHOUはIの意思を疑うんだ？
An army have I muster'd（呼び集める） in my thoughts,
Wherewith already France is overrun.
もうIの考えの中では軍隊は消臭されてフランスはもう逃げ去っている

MESSENGER.
My gracious lords, to add to your laments,
Wherewith you now bedew King Henry's hearse（棺）,
気高いLORDたちよ、Iの嘆きも、Uたちが涙で濡らしているヘンリーの棺の上に加えます
I must inform you of a dismal fight
Betwixt（＝between) the stout Lord Talbot and the French.
しかしあのロードタルボットとフランスの間に怒った惨めな戦いについて申し上げないといけません
WINCHESTER.
What! wherein（どこで） Talbot overcame? is't so?
なに！どこでタルボットは勝ったのだ？それともなんだ？
MESSENGER.
O, no; wherein Lord Talbot was o'erthrown:
あぁ、残念ながらロードタルボットが敗退したのです
The circumstance I'll tell you more at large（自由に、十分に）.
The tenth of August last this dreadful lord,
Retiring from the siege of Orleans,
状況をもっと詳しく申します、８月１０日のオルレアンの囲みから退却したこの恐るべき勇将は
Having full scarce six thousand in his troop,
By three and twenty thousand of the French
Was round encompassed（囲まれる ーcompass 範囲） and set upon.
わずか６０００ほどの兵隊しか持ち得ず。３２０,０００のフランス軍に包囲されて襲撃を受けました。
No leisure had he to enrank（？ 隊列を整える？） his men;
He wanted pikes（槍部隊） to set before his archers;
Instead whereof sharp stakes（杭） pluck'd（引き抜かれる） out of hedges（生け垣）
They pitched in the ground confusedly,
To keep the horsemen off from breaking in.
Heは軍の隊列を整える暇もなく、槍部隊を弓部隊の前に配置したかったのですが、生け垣から引き抜いた杭を乱雑に突き刺す程度の用意しか、敵騎乗部隊を防ぐために出来なかった有り様でした
More than three hours the fight continued;
Where valiant Talbot above human thought
Enacted（演ずる） wonders with his sword and lance:
Hundreds he sent to hell, and none durst stand him;
三時間もの間、戦いは続き、勇猛果敢のタルボットはニンゲンの考えの及ばない剣と槍の乱舞を演じ、数百の敵兵を地獄へ送り、誰も彼の前に立ち得ませんでした
Here, there, and every where, enrag'd he slew:
The French exclaim'd, the devil was in arms;
All the whole army stood agaz'd on him.
ここそこで、猛り狂った彼は殺戮しフレンチは悪魔が武器を持ったと叫んだ、すべての軍が彼を唖然とみつめていました
His soldiers spying（をよくみて） his undaunted（くじけない） spirit
A Talbot! a Talbot! cried out amain（全力で）,
And rush'd into the bowels（はらわた、中心部）of the battle.
彼の兵士たちはそのくじけない魂をみて、タルボット！タルボット！と全力で叫びつつ、戦いの中心へと切れこんでいきました
Here had the conquest fully been seal'd up,
If Sir John Fastolfe had not play'd the coward.
ここで征服は官僚したようなものでした、もしサージョンファストルフが臆病をしたりしなければ
He, being in the vaward（＝vanguard 前衛） plac'd behind
With purpose to relieve and follow them,
Cowardly fled, not having struck one stroke.
前衛部隊の後ろにいたHeは前衛を助けて後方を受ける立場にありながら、一太刀もふるわずに臆病にも逃げ去ったのです
Hence grew the general wreck and massacre;
Enclosed were they with their enemies:
ここに大規模な崩壊と虐殺が怒って、theyは敵によって囲まれてしまいました
A base Walloon (ワルーン人、ベルギー付近に居住） to win the Dauphin's grace,
Thrust Talbot with a spear into the back;

Is Talbot slain? then I will slay myself,

For living idly here in pomp（見せかけの壮麗さ） and ease,
Whilst such a worthy leader, wanting aid,
Unto his dastard（卑怯な） foemen is betray'd.
卑怯な裏切りにより、あのような有能なリーダーが援軍を待っていたのに、こんな見せかけの壮麗な場所で安楽にぶらぶらしていたのだから
MESSENGER.
O no, he lives; but is took prisoner,
And Lord Scales with him, and Lord Hungerford:
Most of the rest slaughter'd or took likewise.
あぁイヤ、彼は生きています、しかし捕虜としてです、ロードスケールス、ロードハンガーフォード、他の大部分も弑逆されたか、同じように捕虜にされました
BEDFORD.
His ransom（捕虜交換金） there is none but I shall pay:

I'll hale（引きずりだす、フランス語） the Dauphin headlong（まっさかさまの） from his throne:

ではさらばだ、マスターたちよ、直ちにフランスにセントジョージ（イングランドの守護聖人、４/２３日、シェイクスピアも同日の生まれで、死んだ日も同じ、という伝説がある）の生誕祭のかがり火をたくという仕事があるのでね
Whose bloody deeds shall make an Europe quake.
一万の軍隊を率いてIはいこう、彼らの血なまぐさい行いはヨーロッパをゆるがさずにおかん
MESSENGER.
So you had need; for Orleans is besieg'd;
そうですUにはその必要があります
The English army is grown weak and faint:
オルレアンは囲まれて、イングランド軍は弱り果てています
The Earl of Salisbury craveth supply,
And hardly keeps his men from mutiny（暴動）,
Since they, so few, watch such a multitude.
アールサリスベリーは補給を死ぬほど欲しています、暴動を抑えるのもままならないほどのに、彼らはあんなに少数で、アレほどの軍勢を監視するのですから

Remember, lords, your oaths to Henry sworn,
Either to quell（鎮圧する） the Dauphin utterly,
Or bring him in obedience to your yoke（くびき）.

I'll to the Tower with all the haste I can,
To view the artillery and munition（軍需品 munito=城壁）;
And then I will proclaim（～と宣言する） young Henry king.
Iも出来るだけ早くロンドン塔へゆき、武器と軍用品を調べねば、そして若きヘンリー王子の即位を宣言せねば

To Eltham will I, where the young King is,
Being ordain'd（～と叙任する） his special governor;
And for his safety there I'll best devise（～と工夫する。遺贈する、分け与える）.

Each hath his place and function to attend:
I am left out; for me nothing remains.
