SCENE IV. Orleans.
オーレォン（フランス語だとこういう発音らしい）
[Enter, on the walls, a Master Gunner and his Boy.]
門のところへマスターガンナーとそのガキが登場
MASTER GUNNER.
Sirrah, thou know'st how Orleans is besieged,
And how the English have the suburbs won.
シー！THOUは知ってるだろうOrがどうやって包囲されて、Enが郊外で勝利したかを
BOY.
Father, I know; and oft（＝often) have shot at them,
Howe'er unfortunate I miss'd my aim.
Fa、知ってるよ、だからいくらかお見舞いしたんだ、残念ながら狙いは外れたけどね
MASTER GUNNER.
But now thou shalt not. Be thou ruled by me:
だが今はTHOUはそうじゃない、Meが司令をするからな
Chief master-gunner am I of this town;
Something I must do to procure（獲得する） me grace.
この街のMagとしてその栄誉を得るために何かせねばな
The prince's espials（監視） have informed me
How the English, in the suburbs close intrench'd,

Wont（ウォーント 常に～～する） through a secret grate（格子） of iron bars
In yonder（向こうの） tower to overpeer（上から望む） the city,

And thence discover how with most advantage
They may vex us with shot or with assault.
そうしてどのようにすれば最も効率的に砲撃とアサルトで被害を与えられるかをみつけるってわけだな
To intercept this inconvenience,
A piece of ordnance（大砲) 'gainst it I have placed;
その不都合を阻止するために、Iはある大砲を備え付けた
And even these three days have I watch'd,
If I could see them.
そして3日も観察した、どうにかThemが見えないかとな
Now do thou watch, for I can stay no longer.
If thou spy'st any, run and bring me word;

Or by what means got'st thou to be releas'd?
Discourse, I prithee（願わくば）, on this turret's top.
そしてどういうわけで釈放されたんだ、説明してくれ（ディスクールしてくれ）、たのむから、このタレットの上で
TALBOT.
The Duke of Bedford had a prisoner
Call'd the brave Lord Ponton de Santrailles;
DuBが、勇敢なLo P d Sというやつを捕虜にしていたのです
For him was I exchanged and ransomed.
彼と捕虜交換されたというわけです
But with a baser man of arms by far
Once in contempt they would have barter'd me:
もっとひどく下賎なものと、Iに軽蔑をもって交換しようとしたのだけれど
Which I disdaining（軽蔑して） scorn'd, and craved death
Rather than I would be so vile（下賎な）-esteem'd.
そんなものは軽蔑して無視して、むしろ死を願いました、そんなことでIの自尊心を穢されるくらいなら
In fine（インファイニ ラテン語＝要するには、罰金で、ではない）, redeem'd（買い戻す、償還する） I was as I desired.
最終的には、Iの望む形で、償還は行われました
But, O! the treacherous Fastolfe wounds my heart,
Whom with my bare fists I would execute,
If I now had him brought into my power.
だけど、クソ！あの裏切りのファストルフめ、胸がむかむかする。ステゴロでぶちのめしてやるぞ、もしIの指揮下に戻ったなら・・
SALISBURY.
Yet tell'st thou not how thou wert entertain'd.
ねぇまだTHOUはどういう風に楽しませてもらった（茶化してるのです）のか言わないじゃないか
TALBOT.
With scoffs and scorns and contumelious（無礼な） taunts.
罵詈雑言と無礼な振る舞いによってです
In open market-place produced they me,
To be a public spectacle to all:
広い場所にIをつれていきました、公衆の晒し者にするためにね
Here, said they, is the terror of the French,
The scarecrow that affrights（恐れさせる） our children so.
やつらはいいましたね、これがフランスの恐怖で、子供をビビらせる、カカシ様だってね
Then broke I from the officers that led me,
And with my nails digg'd stones out of the ground
To hurl（放り投げる） at the beholders of my shame;

My grisly（ぞっとする） countenance（顔つき） made others fly;
None durst come near for fear of sudden death.
Iのぞっとするような顔つきをみて、ヤツラは散り散りになりました、誰も即死を怖がって寄ってきませんでした
In iron walls they deem'd me not secure;
So great fear of my name 'mongst them was spread
鉄のカベでさえも安全ではないように思えたのでしょう、Iの名のすごい恐怖がヤツラの中に広がっていきました
That they supposed I could rend（引きちぎる） bars of steel,
And spurn in pieces posts of adamant（壊れないもの）:
THEYはIが鉄柵を引きちぎりどんな固いものでも粉々にすると思ったのです
Wherefore a guard of chosen shot I had,
That walk'd about me every minute while;
And if I did but stir out of my bed,
Ready they were to shoot me to the heart.
そこで狙撃隊がIの守りにつきまして、一分間ごとに見張りをするようになりました、ちょっとベッドからもぞもぞと動くだけで、Iの心臓を撃ち抜こうとしてね

I grieve to hear what torments you endured,
But we will be revenged sufficiently.
IはUが受けた責め苦を聞いて煩悶するが、そのリベンジは十分なされるだろう
Now it is supper-time in Orleans:
Here, through this grate, I count each one,
And view the Frenchmen how they fortify（要塞化する）:
オーレオンでは今は食事の時間だ、ほらこの大砲を通して１人づつ確認できるくらいだ、そしてFrがどのように要塞をこしらえているかも見ることができる
Let us look in; the sight will much delight thee.

Where is best place to make our battery（砲列隊） next.
見てくれ、この長めはTHEEを喜ばせるだろう、STG、SWG、意見を聞かせてくれ、どこが砲撃を加えるには最良の場所だろうか。
GARGRAVE.
I think, at the north gate; for there stand lords.
北門が良いでしょう、ロードたちがいるから
GLANSDALE.
And I, here, at the bulwark（土塁） of the bridge.
Iは橋の土塁です
TALBOT.
For aught I see（よくはわからないが）, this city must be famish'd,
Or with light skirmishes enfeebled（衰弱させる）.
たぶんこの街は餓死寸前だし、小さな小競り合いで衰弱している
[Here they shoot. Salisbury and Gargrave fall.]

SALISBURY.
O Lord, have mercy on us, wretched sinners!

TALBOT.
What chance is this that suddenly hath cross'd us?

Speak, Salisbury: at least, if thou canst speak:
How farest thou, mirror of all martial men?
Saなんとかいってくれ、しゃべれるなら。THOUは戦う男たちの鏡のように誠意のあるヒトだったぞ
One of thy eyes and thy cheek's side struck off!
Accursed tower! accursed fatal hand
That hath contrived this woful tragedy!
片目と頬が吹き飛ばされてしまってるじゃないか！！呪われたタワーだ、呪われた運命の手が、こんなひどい悲劇を引き起こすとは！
In thirteen battles Salisbury o'ercame;
Henry the Fifth he first train'd to the wars;
１３もの戦争を闘いぬいたSa、ヘンリーⅤが最初に戦の手ほどきをうけた男
Whilst any trump did sound, or drum struck up,
His sword did ne'er leave striking in the field.

Yet liv'st thou, Salisbury? though thy speech doth fail,
One eye thou hast, to look to heaven for grace:

Salisbury, cheer thy spirit with this comfort,
Thou shalt not die whiles--

He beckons with his hand and smiles on me,
As who should say 'When I am dead and gone,
Remember to avenge me on the French.'

Plantagenet, I will; and like thee, Nero,
Play on the lute, beholding the towns burn;
Wretched shall France be only in thy name.
プランタジネット（Saはランスター公の四男？JOAN の息子で王家の血？）、おれはやるぞネロのように街が焼け落ちるのを見ながらリュートを奏でよう、THYの名をもってフランスよ呪われろ
[Here an alarum, and it thunders and lightens. ]
突撃の音、そして雷鳴が轟く
What stir is this? what tumult's in the heavens?
Whence cometh this alarum and the noise?
この地鳴りはなんだ、この天の轟は？この轟音とやかましさは何の前触れだ？
[Enter a Messenger.]
MESSENGER.
My lord, my lord, the French have gather'd head:
The Dauphin, with one Joan la Pucelle join'd,
A holy prophetess new risen up,
Is come with a great power to raise the siege.
ロードロード！Frが固まって兵をあげました。Daはジョアンラプセルが加わりました、新参の聖なる預言者です、ものすごい力で包囲を突破します
[Here SALISBURY lifteth himself up and groans.]
ここでSaは頭を上げて苦悶する
TALBOT.
Hear, hear how dying Salisbury doth groan!
聴いたか！聴いたか！死にゆくSaの嘆きが
It irks his heart he cannot be revenged.
復讐できないことが彼のこころをかきむしったのだ
Frenchmen, I 'll be a Salisbury to you:
Pucelle or puzzel, dolphin or dogfish（小型のサメ）,
Fr、IがUのSaとなるぞ、プセルだか、パズルだかドルフィンだかドッグフィッシュだか知らないが！（ダジャレ）
Your hearts I 'll stamp out with my horse's heels,
And make a quagmire（沼地） of your mingled brains.
Uの心臓をIの馬の蹄で潰しだしてやる、腐った脳髄をぶちまけてやる
Convey me Salisbury into his tent,
And then we 'll try what these dastard Frenchmen dare.
Saの陣営へとIを導け、そのあとで、あのクソッタレフレンチが何が出来るのか試してやる
[Alarum. Exeunt.]
アララム、退場。
SCENE V. The same.
シーン５ 同場（オーレオン）
[Here an alarum again: and Talbot pursueth the
Dauphin, and driveth him: then enter Joan La Pucelle,
driving Englishmen before her, and exit after them:
then re-enter Talbot.]
アララムがもう一度、タルボットはDaを追いたてる、そこへプセルが登場、Enを追い立てて退場、またタルボットが登場
TALBOT.
Where is my strength, my valor, and my force?
Our English troops retire, I cannot stay them:
A woman clad（＝clothed) in armour chaseth them.
Iの力は、勇気は、軍勢はどこへいったんだ、Enの軍隊は撤退していく、Iはとどまることができない、武装したオンナに追い立てられている
[Re-enter La Pucelle.]
プセル再登場
Here, here she comes. I 'll have a bout with thee;
Devil or devil's dam（メス親）, I 'll conjure thee:
来たぞ、Cが。THEEと決闘する。悪魔か悪魔のメス親か、その呪いを暴く
Blood will I draw on thee, thou art a witch,
And straightway give thy soul to him thou servest.
血を引きずり出してやるぞ魔女め（魔女の魔力はその血にあるという伝説）、そしてTHOUが従うべきものへその魂を送り込んでやる
PUCELLE.
Come, come, 'tis only I that must disgrace thee.
こいこい、IだけがTHEEに土を踏ませるものだぞ
[Here they fight.]

TALBOT.
Heavens, can you suffer hell so to prevail?
天よどうして地獄が栄えるのを許しておける
My breast I 'll burst with straining of my courage,
And from my shoulders crack my arms asunder,
But I will chastise（穢を取り除く） this high-minded strumpet（売春婦）.
Iの胸がIの勇気で爆発しても、腕が肩から引きちぎれようとも、この高慢ちきの売春婦という汚れを（この世から）取り除いてやる
[They fight again.]
再戦
PUCELLE.
Talbot, farewell; thy hour is not yet come:
I must go victual Orleans forthwith.
タルボットよ、お別れだ、THYのの命数はまだ残ってる、オーレオンに勝利をもたらすために行かなくては
[A short alarum: then enter the town with soldiers.]
短いアララム、街へ兵隊が入り込む
O'ertake me, if thou canst; I scorn thy strength.
出来るものなら追ってこいIはオマエの力など屁にも思っていない
Go, go, cheer up thy hungry-starved men;
Help Salisbury to make his testament:
This day is ours, as many more shall be.
ゆけゆけ、THYの飢餓軍団を励ましにいけ、Sawo助けて遺言を書かせてやれ、今日という日はワレワレのものだ、そしてこれからも多くの日がそうなるだろう

TALBOT.
My thoughts are whirled like a potter's wheel;
I know not where I am, nor what I do;
考えがろくろのように回ってるぞ、どこにいるのかも何をしているのかもわからん
A witch, by fear, not force, like Hannibal,
Drives back our troops and conquers as she lists.
魔女め！力ではなく恐怖を利用した、ハンニバルのように、Cが言ったようにワレワレの軍隊を撤退させ勝利を収めた
So bees with smoke and doves with noisome stench（悪臭）
Are from their hives and houses driven away.
ハチやハトが煙や悪臭で彼らの家や巣からいぶし出されるように
They call'd us for our fierceness English dogs;
Now, like to whelps（いぬっころ）, we crying run away.
Enの猛犬と歌われたUsが、今では狆ころのように泣いて逃げ出している
[A short alarum.]
Hark（聞け）, countrymen! either renew the fight,
Or tear the lions out of England's coat;
Renounce（断念する） your soil, give sheep in lions' stead:
聞け国のものよ、新たな戦いを始めろ、そうでなければEnの紋章からライオンを引きちぎれ、土壌を捨てろ！そしてライオンの代わりに羊でもつけろ
Sheep run not half so treacherous from the wolf,
Or horse or oxen from the leopard,
As you fly from your oft-subdued slaves.

Pucelle is ent'red into Orleans,
In spite of us or aught that we could do.
プセルはオーレオンに入った、ワレワレがそうするべきであったのに
O, would I were to die with Salisbury!
The shame hereof will make me hide my head.
くそっSaと共にしていればよかった、こんな恥辱ではこれから顔を隠して生きねばならん・・
[Exit Talbot. Alarum; retreat; flourish.]

SCENE VI. The Same.
[Enter, on the walls, La Pucelle, Charles,
Reignier, Alencon, and Soldiers.]
城壁に、P、Cｈ、R、A 、兵士たち登場
PUCELLE.
Advance our waving colours on the walls;
行って、城壁から、旗をなびかせろ
Rescued is Orleans from the English:
Thus Joan la Pucelle hath perform'd her word.
オーレオンはイングランドから救われた、プセルは約束を果たしたぞ
CHARLES.
Divinest creature, Astraea's（ユピテルの娘、乙女座のコト、処女で無垢の象徴） daughter,How shall I honour thee for this success?
最も神聖な生き物、アストライアーの娘よ、どのようにその名誉を称えればよい
Thy promises are like Adonis' (ギリシャの有名な美青年）gardens
that one day bloom'd and fruitful were the next.
その約束、はアドニスの庭のようだ、ある日に花咲けば、次の日には実がなっている
France, triumph in thy glorious prophetess!
Recover'd is the town of Orleans.
More blessed hap did ne'er befall our state.

Why ring not out the bells aloud throughout the town?

Than the rich-jewel'd coffer of Darius,
Cが死んだときはそれを記念して、Cの灰は骨壷は、ダリウスの絢爛豪華なものよりも豪華なものとする
Transported shall be at high festivals
Before the kings and queens of France.
大きな祝祭の時には運ばれるよう、フランスの王と王女のもとへ
No longer on Saint Denis（サンドニ、フランスの初代司教で守護聖人） will we cry,
But Joan la Pucelle shall be France's saint.
サンドニに涙することはやめて、ジョアン・ラ・プセルがフランスのセイントとなる
Come in, and let us banquet royally
After this golden day of victory.
